Danganronpa 2x2 launches in North America and Europe on January 14, 2027. Spike Chunsoft has confirmed versions for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The package contains two substantial parts. One is a visually updated version of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. The other is a new scenario that returns to Jabberwock Island with the same setting and characters, but changes the incident that begins the killing game. That creates a different chain of victims, culprits and tricks.
Danganronpa 2x2 release date
The confirmed release date is January 14, 2027 in North America and Europe. Spike Chunsoft announced the date on September 9, 2026, replacing the broader 2026 window given when the game was first revealed.
Nintendo also included the date in its September 2026 Nintendo Direct coverage. The date therefore comes from both the publisher and a platform holder.

Spike Chunsoft lists Japanese and English text and voice options. The game is a single-player visual novel and adventure title developed by Gemdrops.
What is new in Danganronpa 2x2?
The new scenario is more than a short bonus chapter. Spike Chunsoft says it contains a volume of content comparable to the original scenario. It uses the cast and island setting from Goodbye Despair, while the new initiating incident changes the murders and mysteries players must solve.
The original Goodbye Despair scenario is also included. It has revised visuals and production values for current systems. Players will still investigate crime scenes and expose contradictions during Class Trials, but the package is designed to serve both returning players and newcomers.
Is Danganronpa 2x2 a remake or a new game?
It is both a revised version of an existing game and a new story. Calling it only a remaster would omit the second scenario. Calling it a completely separate sequel would also be misleading because it reuses the setting and characters of Goodbye Despair and includes the updated original campaign.
Nintendo Switch 2 physical edition
Spike Chunsoft previously confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 physical release will use a game-key card. The company has not announced a conventional full-game cartridge alternative for that version. Buyers who prefer physical releases should check the format shown by their retailer before ordering.
