Cyberpunk 2077's free Update 2.5, officially called the Edgerunners 2 Update, arrived on October 22, 2026 for PC, supported Mac storefronts, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It adds dual-wielded handguns, in-game access to selected community mods, new quests connected to the Netflix anime and extensive customization. Nintendo Switch 2 players are still waiting for their version of the patch.
This is more than a collection of anime-themed outfits. The new combat perk changes how V can fight, Glamdocs let players redesign visible cyberware, and mod.io brings curated mod browsing into the game itself. CD PROJEKT RED confirmed that the update is live; here's what existing and returning players should know before loading a save.
Is Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 free, and where is it available?
Yes. The update is free to owners of the base game; you do not need to buy Phantom Liberty or the Ultimate Edition. The publisher says it does not require a new playthrough, so existing saves remain the starting point for the new content.
| Platform | Update 2.5 availability |
|---|---|
| Windows PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store) | Available since October 22 |
| Mac (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store) | Available since October 22 |
| PlayStation 5 / PS5 Pro | Available since October 22 |
| Xbox Series X / Series S | Available since October 22 |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Coming later; no exact release date confirmed |
| Mac App Store | Coming later; no exact release date confirmed |
These are the publisher's announced rollout windows, not a guarantee of the same download size or unlock hour in every territory. CD PROJEKT RED's official update FAQ also confirms automatic downloading for supported versions when connected to the internet.
How to unlock the new Edgerunners 2 quest
The new side quest is called Clampdown, and its story takes place before the events of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. To make it available, complete The Heist, finish two gigs for Wakako, then wait for a message. You do not need to restart the campaign just to reach this new material.
Clampdown provides a five-piece gear set associated with King, a character from the new anime. The update also introduces HKGN 102.0 FM, a radio station featuring music from the Edgerunners series. This is a link between the two stories, not a replacement for the game's central narrative or a separate paid expansion.
Another Night City quest and 12 tarot cards
There is also a guided-tour mystery called Welcome to Paradise, narrated by Richard Night. The official requirements are completion of The Heist and Street Cred level 15. Collectors get 12 new Minor Arcana tarot cards and an extension of the Fool on the Hill quest. Finding the new cards activates the associated quest and completing the set earns a reward.
These two quest lines have different unlock conditions. Players looking only for Clampdown should not waste time grinding Street Cred 15 first unless they also want Welcome to Paradise.
How dual wielding works in Update 2.5
Double Trouble is a new perk in the Cool skill tree, accompanied by four supporting perks. It enables V to use two Power-category pistols or revolvers at once, offering a combat style that was not previously available through the standard perk system.
That limitation matters: this is not an announcement that any two weapons can be paired, or that every type of handgun benefits. The patch notes specifically identify Power pistols and revolvers. If you are returning to an older character, check the Cool tree and your weapon types before rebuilding a loadout.
Can you install mods on PS5 and Xbox now?
Yes, selected mods. Update 2.5 adds cross-platform mod support through mod.io, allowing players to browse and install a curated selection from an in-game menu rather than manually editing the installation. CD PROJEKT RED names PC, Mac, PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S among the platforms supported by this feature.
The publisher's wider update webpage also lists Switch 2 for cross-platform mod support, but the detailed October 21 patch notes omit it from the supported-mod list, and the Switch 2 patch itself is not yet live. It would therefore be premature to promise that a particular mod can be installed on Nintendo's system today.
Nor does in-game mod.io integration mean every unrestricted PC mod will work on consoles. Compatibility and the selection offered through the menu matter. There is a further warning for achievement hunters: modded save files cannot earn achievements or trophies when played on console, according to the patch notes. Keep an unmodded save if that distinction is important to you.
New Glamdocs, clothing and photo options
Night City now has five Glamdocs, specialty vendors marked on the map where V can change the look of visible hand cyberware. This covers Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire and the Projectile Launch System. The publisher describes a collection of cyberware skins with additional color customization, giving players a way to change their character's style without altering their entire build.
New clothing collections are distributed across vendors in Heywood, Arroyo, Little China, City Center, Kabuki, Japantown, Pacifica, the Badlands and Northside. Some NPC hairstyles are also available to V, although CD PROJEKT RED notes that certain styles remain limited by body type. Photo Mode receives trading-card-style frames and dual-wielding poses.
Performance, DLSS 4.5 and console quality-of-life changes
The update adds support for DLSS 4.5, including newer multi-frame-generation options on compatible hardware. It also introduces a setting for FSR Anti-Lag 2, adjustments to AMD FSR availability and optimizations involving ray tracing and PS5 Pro. Console users now have an FOV slider, while HDR changes aim to improve color and brightness accuracy on supported displays.
These are feature and optimization announcements, not independent benchmark results. The existence of a frame-generation option does not establish a specific frame rate, and supported configurations can vary by GPU.
Outside graphics, saves are now grouped by playthrough in the Load Game menu, stash filters make inventories easier to manage, and the developer has addressed specific bugs affecting saving on Switch 2, HDR settings on PS5 and quest progression involving the Delamain cab. The full changes are documented in the official Update 2.5 patch notes.
Should you return to Night City for Update 2.5?
For someone who already owns Cyberpunk 2077, the barrier is low: the update costs nothing, preserves an existing playthrough and adds substantial reasons to experiment. The dual-wielding perk and Glamdoc system can refresh familiar builds, while Clampdown gives anime viewers a direct new story connection.
If you're on Switch 2, wait for the confirmed platform rollout instead of treating the October 22 date as universal. And if you want achievements on consoles, read the modded-save warning before installing community content. Update 2.5 expands Night City's possibilities, but the practical details—platform timing, compatible weapons and selected mods—matter more than the promotional spectacle.
